Course Overview:

This course will look at the tourism industry through the lens of business, specifically by considering the management, marketing, and finance issues most important to industry members. The course will start with a comprehensive model of tourism and continue with individual sections that provide a thorough understanding of all sectors of travel and tourism. The role of the travel agents, technology, transportation modes, accommodations, cruise lines, destinations, attractions, and food and beverage operations are all covered in detail.

Students will:

  • identify the basic principles of the travel industry
  • list the various modes of travel and types of travel
  • describe the strategies for sales and marketing in the travel industry
  • identify the opportunities and work venues available for the travel agent
  • demonstrate proficiency in the technology used in the travel agency

About This Course:

We are committed to offering world class interactive online courses that provide training and learning support for the student in a number of ways during their experience. This course structure has been developed to provide activities to guide students throughout the entire process of learning. Learning activities include hands-on assignments that allow students to use what they are learning to allow better transferable skills within their work environments.

When a student learns, they are not alone.   Each student will be supported by our student services department – which ranges from course mentors, registrar, and technical support assistance.   Every month students have a progress report run on them every month by our student services department to ensure they are making satisfactory progress.   If a student falls behind, we reach out to them personally by phone call every month to see if there is anything we can do to continue to assist them with moving forward in their course.

This lesson will provide an overview of the types of tourists and the ways in which they can be marketed to.

Lesson 3: Delivering Quality Tourism Services

In this lesson, you will learn more about travelers and how tourism suppliers identify and deliver quality services.

Lesson 4: Bringing Travelers and Tourism Service Suppliers Together

This lesson takes an in-depth look at the multifaceted distribution systems and sales functions that link travelers and tourism suppliers.

Lesson 5: Capturing Technology's Competitive Advantages

This lesson explores how technology has shaped and continues to change every aspect of the tourism industry.

Lesson 6: Transportation

This lesson will focus on the marketing, management, and financial issues facing transportation.

Lesson 7: Accommodations

This lesson will focus on the marketing, management, and financial issues facing the accommodation service industry.

Lesson 8: Food and Beverage

This lesson will focus on the marketing, management, and financial issues facing the food and beverage service industry.

Lesson 9: Attractions and Entertainment

This lesson will focus on the marketing, management, and financial issues facing the attractions and entertainment industry.

Lesson 10: Destinations

This lesson will focus on the marketing, management, and financial issues facing the travel destination industry.

Lesson 11: Economic and Political Impacts of Tourism

This lesson will explore the economic and political forces that shape the current and future operating environment for every person and organization that is found in the tourism model.

Lesson 12: Environmental and Social/Cultural Impacts of Tourism

This lesson will explore the environmental and social/cultural forces that shape the current and future operating environment for every person and organization found in the tourism model.

Lesson 13: Sustaining Tourism's Benefits

This lesson is devoted to exploring how the benefits of tourism can be maintained.

Lesson 14: Sustaining Tourism's Benefits

This lesson will explore the future or tourism and discuss potential initiatives and developments.
